White Comet | VR/3D Printing Workstation

Short System Description, Long System Description, Hardware Selection Reasons

Short System Description

White Comet is an air-cooled workstation designed for VR, 3D printing, CAD work, and general gaming. This build uses several components selected for visual appeal by the client, including: CPU cooler, memory, video card, case, fans. This build is designed around an 8-core i7 9700K processor and an RTX 2070 8GB video card.

Long System Description

White Comet was our 34th build, several years into running the business. At this point, I’d gained a good handle on lead generation and overall marketing.

Daniel and I connected on Facebook in Summer 2018. About a year later, he contacted me again to discuss a new workstation build.

Over the next few days, we figured out what he needed in the PC performance-wise and catered to his personal wishes.

I have no doubt Daniel will return to us when he needs a new high-end workstation.

“Very professional and courteous. Having simple conversations with the Top Flight Crew made it very easy to determine what would be ideal for my needs.

Recommend to anyone in the market for a custom or really any PC.”

- Daniel, Coats NC

Hardware Selection Reasons

Processor (CPU): Intel i7-9700K

I chose this processor for the high single-core performance, especially for CAD and VR applications.

While AMD was more budget-friendly, Daniel preferred the higher performance of Intel.

CPU Cooler: Be Quiet Dark Rock 4

I chose this CPU cooler for the excellent cooling performance of air. While water does cool better, air is more reliable, and this cooler also runs extremely quietly.

This cooler also looks nice in the case, making for a very sleek interior. Daniel agreed with the visual design, and understood my explanation of the reliability advantage.

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 AORUS ELITE

I chose this motherboard for socket compatibility and robust design. Gigabyte is also one of my preferred motherboard manufacturers.

Daniel agreed with the visual design, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Memory: GSkill Trident Z RGB 2x16GB DDR4-3000

I chose this memory kit for motherboard compatibility and robust design. GSkill is also one of my preferred memory manufacturers.

Daniel needed 32GB of memory for his workflow, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Storage (SSD): Crucial MX500 1TB

I chose this SSD for robust design, high capacity, fast access times, and low cost. When White Comet was built, SSDs were very cheap, allowing us to use a 1TB model for overall storage. Crucial is also one of my preferred SSD manufacturers.

Daniel didn’t need more SSD space, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Video Card (GPU): Gigabyte RTX 2070 8GB Gaming OC (White)

I chose this GPU for long-term performance, visual theme, and robust design.

Daniel needed high performance for VR and CAD, wanted a white video card, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Power Supply (PSU): Corsair RMx (2018) 650W Gold

I chose this PSU for wattage, robust design, and long-term stability.

Daniel wanted a workstation that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Case: NZXT H500 White

I chose this case for robust design, airflow, visual theme, and long-term stability.

Daniel wanted a workstation that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Fans: 4x Phanteks PH-F120MP Black

I chose these fans for robust design, airflow, static pressure, visual theme, low-noise operation, and long-term stability.

Daniel wanted a workstation that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Accessories: RGB Lighting
