Short System Description, Long System Description, Hardware Selection Reasons

Short System Description

Spectre v2 is an upgrade to a previous build (Spectre) that we did for a client. Spectre v2 is designed to deliver an ideal experience in 4K resolution at high quality. This system includes a complete set of aftermarket RGB fans, to ensure long-term stability, as well as increase the visual appeal of the computer. This system uses an 8-core i9-9900K processor and an RTX 2080Ti 11GB video card.

Long System Description

We’d built Spectre v1 for Zachary in Summer 2018, and he came back to us about a year later wanting to upgrade his computer. There was some new hardware out, and he wanted to use the new hardware to amp up his gaming experience.

He had a rough idea of what he wanted, and relied on us to figure out the rest of the system.

I have no doubt Zachary will return to us when he needs a new high-end gaming computer.

Hardware Selection Reasons

Processor (CPU): Intel i9-9900K

I chose this processor for the superior performance in gaming.

While Ryzen 3000 did have a more attractive ratio between speed, threads, and price, Zachary wanted something that was well-known and would do well across the board.

Zachary understood that needing more CPU threads down the road would require a new motherboard as well.

CPU Cooler: Corsair H150i PRO RGB

I chose this CPU cooler for the excellent cooling performance of water. While air is more reliable, water cools better and runs quieter.

This cooler also looks nice in the case, making for a very sleek interior. Zachary agreed with the visual design, and understood my explanation of the reliability of high-end water coolers.

Motherboard: Asus ROG STRIX Z390-E

I chose this motherboard for socket compatibility, version compared to the previous board, and robust design. Asus is also one of my preferred motherboard manufacturers.

Zachary agreed with the visual design, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Memory: GSkill Trident Z RGB 2x8GB DDR4-3000

I chose this memory kit for motherboard compatibility and robust design. Corsair is also one of my preferred memory manufacturers.

We reused the existing kit from his old computer, and Zachary understood my explanation of the build quality.

Storage (SSD): HP EX950 1TB NVME

I chose this SSD for robust design, high capacity, fast access times, and low cost. When Spectre v2 was built, SSDs were very cheap, allowing us to use a 1TB model for OS and programs. HP is also one of my preferred SSD manufacturers.

Zachary understood my explanation of the build quality.

Storage (SSD): Intel 660p 2TB NVME

I chose this SSD for robust design, high capacity, fast access times, and low cost. When Spectre v2 was built, SSDs were very cheap, allowing us to use a 2TB model for general storage. Intel is also one of my preferred SSD manufacturers.

Zachary didn’t need more space for archival storage, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Video Card (GPU): EVGA RTX 2080Ti 11GB FTW3 Ultra Gaming

I chose this GPU for long-term performance and robust design.

Zachary understood my explanation of the build quality.

Power Supply (PSU): EVGA SuperNOVA P2 850W

I chose this PSU for wattage, robust design, and long-term stability.

Zachary wanted a gaming computer that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Case: Phanteks Enthoo Primo Aluminum

I chose this case for robust design, airflow, and long-term stability.

Zachary wanted a gaming computer that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Fans: 11x Corsair LL120 RGB Black

I chose these fans for robust design, airflow, static pressure, unique visual appeal, low-noise operation, and long-term stability.

Zachary wanted a gaming computer that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Accessories: Corsair Commander Pro, Corsair Lighting Node Pro

Monitor: Acer Predator X34 34" 3440x1440 120Hz
