Short System Description

Shwaza is a liquid-cooled workstation designed for use in Adobe Animate and Premiere, Unreal Engine 4, gaming, and streaming. This build uses several components selected for visual appeal by the client, including: CPU cooler, memory, GPU, case, and fans. This build is designed around an 8-core i9 9900K processor and an RTX 2080 8GB video card.

Long System Description

Shwaza was our 44th build, several years into running the business. At this point, I’d gained a good handle on lead generation and overall marketing.

Chad and I connected at East Coast Game Conference in early 2019 and had a nice initial conversation about what he was needing. Chad was about to graduate from college in a few weeks, and was looking to get a nice workstation for his upcoming career in game development.

A day after the event, he contacted me again to discuss the new workstation build. This ended up being quite a long conversation, as he had a complex workflow and had a lot of questions about hardware selection and visual theme.

I have no doubt Chad will return to us when he needs a new high-end workstation.

“Amazing service, they really worked with me to know exactly what I needed in a computer and how to provide that.

They keep me updated at every step in the process and answered every question I had.”

- Chad, Clayton NC

Hardware Selection Reasons

Processor (CPU): Intel i9-9900K

I chose this processor for the high single-core performance for gaming, and multi-core performance for heavier tasks in Premiere.

While Skylake X has more threads for faster heavy rendering, the 9900K was more budget-friendly. Additionally, while Ryzen 3000 does have a more attractive ratio between speed, threads, and price, it had not been released yet.

Chad preferred the immediate stronger editing/modeling performance with Intel, and understood that needing more CPU threads down the road would require a new motherboard as well.

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i RGB PLATINUM SE

I chose this CPU cooler for the excellent cooling performance of water, and the color of the cooler. While air is more reliable, water cools better and runs quieter.

This cooler also looks nice in the case, making for a very sleek interior. Chad agreed with the visual design, and understood my explanation of the reliability of high-end water coolers.

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Elite

I chose this motherboard for socket compatibility and robust design. Gigabyte is also one of my preferred motherboard manufacturers.

Chad agreed with the visual design, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX White 2x16GB DDR4-2666

I chose this memory kit for motherboard compatibility, visual theme, and robust design. Corsair is also one of my preferred memory manufacturers.

Chad needed 32GB of memory for his workflow, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Storage (SSD): HP EX920 500GB NVME

I chose this SSD for robust design, high capacity, fast access times, and low cost. When Shwaza was built, SSDs were very cheap, allowing us to use a 500GB model for OS, programs, and application cache. HP is also one of my preferred SSD manufacturers.

Chad understood my explanation of the build quality.

Storage (SSD): HP EX920 1TB NVME

I chose this SSD for robust design, high capacity, fast access times, and low cost. When Shwaza was built, SSDs were very cheap, allowing us to use a 1TB model for general work storage. HP is also one of my preferred SSD manufacturers.

Chad understood my explanation of the build quality.

Storage (HDD): Western Digital Blue 1TB

I chose this HDD for robust design, high capacity, and low cost. Western Digital is also one of my preferred HDD manufacturers.

Chad didn’t need more space for archival storage, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Video Card (GPU): Gigabyte RTX 2080 8GB Gaming OC (White)

I chose this GPU for long-term performance, visual theme, and robust design.

Chad wanted high performance in his gaming workload, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Power Supply (PSU): EVGA SuperNOVA G3 750

I chose this PSU for wattage, robust design, and long-term stability.

Chad wanted a workstation that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Case: Corsair Crystal 570X RGB White

I chose this case for robust design, visual theme, airflow, and long-term stability.

Chad wanted a workstation that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Fans: 6x Corsair ML120 Pro LED White

I chose these fans for robust design, airflow, static pressure, low-noise operation, visual theme, and long-term stability.

Chad wanted a workstation that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Accessories: Elgato HD60 Pro

I chose this capture card for robust design, PCI-based integration, and long-term stability.

Chad wanted a workstation that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.
