Recommended Hardware for Basic Network Storage
Designing the right system for the current scenario is a core element of our mantra at Top Flight Computers. If you don't get the right parts, it doesn't matter how much you spend on your computer...you'll be stuck with expensive hardware that doesn't work well with your situation.
Basic Network Storage Overview
Robust long-term archival storage is an important part of any business, especially one that deals with large amounts of content that isn’t easy to recapture.
This NAS unit provides you with a robust long-term solution that fits easily onto a desk, and can be accessed on your network.
This system is built around the Synology 4 bay DiskStation DS418, providing capacity for 4 drives, and over 40TB of raw single volume capacity.
This Basic Network Attached Storage Solution can be set up as a 9TB RAID 5 (with single-drive fault tolerance), or a 6TB RAID 6 (with dual-drive fault tolerance).
The NAS chassis comes with a quad-core 1.4Ghz processor, 2GB DDR4 memory, and twin gigabit ethernet ports with support for failover and link aggregation.
The NAS chassis also has drive locks, giving you extra piece of mind about data security.
System Change: If you have a question about the compatibility of the NAS chassis selected with an upgrade, please contact us.
Storage (Hard Drives)
The HDD was chosen for its high capacity, relatively low cost, and high reliability.
Used in a team, you can achieve greater overall capacity, faster read/write speeds, and gain the ability to survive 1-2 drives failing.
System Change: If you come across a need for more storage, you can easily upgrade to a bigger HDD, with no need to change the system otherwise.
