Short System Description

Mizerys Monster is a high-end air-cooled CAD workstation designed for use in AutoCAD 2019. This build is designed around an 8-core i9-9900K processor and a Quadro P4000 8GB video card.

Long System Description

Mizerys Monster was our 43th build, several years into running the business. At this point, I’d gained a good handle on lead generation and overall marketing.

Mary and I connected on Facebook in late 2018, and talked briefly about her aging workstation. While she needed a new one, it wasn’t in the cards at the time.

In the early summer of 2019, she contacted me again to discuss a new workstation build. This ended up being a rather quick conversation, as she had already done quite a bit of homework as to what she needed.

Over the next few days, we figured out what she needed in the PC performance-wise and catered to her personal wishes.

I have no doubt Mary will return to us when she needs a new high-end workstation.

“My system was 5 years old and getting slower and slower. Working with Chris to decide on the type of system for me (CAD) was incredibly easy.

He is great to work with, answered all my questions about the parts AND he even had it put together earlier than expected.

Highly recommend if you need a system (new or upgrade).”

Hardware Selection Reasons

Processor (CPU): Intel i9-9900K

I chose this processor for the high single-core and multi-core performance.

The 9900K represented the most powerful modeling/editing CPU that was available at the time, and was a big upgrade over her previous 4930K.

While Skylake X has more threads for faster heavy rendering, the 9900K was more in her budget. Additionally, while Ryzen 3000 does have a more attractive ratio between speed, threads, and price, it had not been released yet.

Mary preferred the immediate stronger editing/modeling performance with Intel, and understood that needing more CPU threads down the road would require a new motherboard as well.

CPU Cooler: Noctua NH-D15

I chose this CPU cooler for the excellent cooling performance of air. While water does cool better, air is more reliable, and this cooler also runs extremely quietly.

Mary understood my explanation of the reliability advantage.

Motherboard: Gigabyte Z390 Aorus Pro WiFi

I chose this motherboard for socket compatibility and robust design. Gigabyte is also one of my preferred motherboard manufacturers.

Mary agreed with the visual design, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x16GB DDR4-2666

I chose this memory kit for motherboard compatibility and robust design. Corsair is also one of my preferred memory manufacturers.

Mary needed 32GB of memory for her workflow, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Storage (SSD): HP EX950 1TB NVME

I chose this SSD for robust design, high capacity, fast access times, and low cost. When Mizerys Monster was built, SSDs were very cheap, allowing us to use a 1TB model for overall storage. HP is also one of my preferred SSD manufacturers.

Mary understood my explanation of the build quality.

Video Card (GPU): PNY Quadro P4000 8GB

I chose this GPU for long-term performance and robust design.

Mary needed to run several monitors, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Power Supply (PSU): EVGA SuperNOVA G3 750

I chose this PSU for wattage, robust design, and long-term stability.

Mary wanted a workstation that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro

I chose this case for robust design, airflow, and long-term stability.

Mary wanted a workstation that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Fans: 4x Corsair ML140 Pro, 2x Corsair ML120 Pro

I chose these fans for robust design, airflow, static pressure, low-noise operation, and long-term stability.

Mary wanted a workstation that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.
