Short System Description, Long System Description, Hardware Selection Reasons

Short System Description

Black Lightning is a liquid-cooled gaming computer designed for gaming at 1440p at high quality. This build is designed around a 6-core Ryzen 5 2600X processor and an RTX 2070 8GB video card.

Long System Description

Black Lightning was our 47th build, several years into running the business. At this point, I’d gained a good handle on lead generation and marketing.

Saeed and I connected on Google in early 2019 and had a nice initial conversation about what he was needing. He let me know in advance that he would be looking to make a purchase in late July8/early August, and wanted a build quote for reference. I was happy to oblige, and looked forward to hearing from him again in the summer.

Right on time, he contacted me again to discuss moving forward with the build. As we’d already tamped out the specifics, this “final approval” stage went pretty quickly.

I have no doubt Saeed will return to us when he needs a new high-end gaming computer.

Hardware Selection Reasons

Processor (CPU): AMD Ryzen 5 2600X

I chose this processor for the high single-core and multi-core performance.

Ryzen 2000 offered a very competitive performance across the board. In addition to the attractive performance, Saeed would be able to easily upgrade to a Ryzen 7 or even a Ryzen 9 as his needs changed. An Intel option may have been more powerful, but lacked a wide upgrade path, and cost more.

Saeed preferred the stronger upgrade path with AMD.

CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i Pro RGB

I chose this CPU cooler for the excellent cooling performance of water. While air is more reliable, water cools better and runs quieter. Saeed also wanted the visual look of the water cooler, a big air cooler was not what he was looking for.

Saeed agreed with the visual design, and understood my explanation of the reliability/performance difference.

Motherboard: Gigabyte B450 Aorus Pro WiFi

I chose this motherboard for socket compatibility and robust design. Gigabyte is also one of my preferred motherboard manufacturers.

Saeed agreed with the visual design, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Memory: GSkill Trident Z RGB 2x8GB DDR4-3200

I chose this memory kit for motherboard compatibility, speed with Ryzen 2000, and robust design. GSkill is also one of my preferred memory manufacturers.

Saeed understood my explanation of the build quality.

Storage (SSD): Crucial P1 500GB NVME

I chose this SSD for robust design, high capacity, fast access times, and low cost. When Black Lightning was built, SSDs were very cheap, allowing us to use a 500GB model for OS, programs, and homework. Crucial is also one of my preferred SSD manufacturers.

Saeed understood my explanation of the build quality.

Video Card (GPU): EVGA RTX 2070 8GB XC Black Edition

I chose this GPU for long-term performance at 1440p and robust design.

Saeed wanted high performance in his 1440p gaming workload, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Power Supply (PSU): EVGA SuperNOVA G3 650

I chose this PSU for wattage, robust design, and long-term stability.

Saeed wanted a gaming computer that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro M Tempered Glass

I chose this case for robust design, airflow, and long-term stability.

Saeed wanted a gaming computer that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Fans: 7x Corsair ML120 Pro LED White

I chose these fans for robust design, airflow, static pressure, low-noise operation, and long-term stability.

Saeed wanted a gaming computer that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.
