Short System Description

Aries is an high-end gaming computer designed for 1080p/240hz gaming, streaming, recording, and video editing. This build is designed around an 8-core i9 9900K processor and twin liquid-cooled RTX 2080 8GB video cards.

Long System Description

Earlier this year, we built Grimm for Alexandria. I enjoyed the build, but I wasn’t expecting to get another build from her anytime soon. The day we got the review for Grimm, Alexandria contacted me about building a new gaming computer for a friend of hers. She wanted it to be nearly the same spec as Grimm, with a few adjustments made, naturally.

She ended up approving the quote later that day.

I have no doubt Alexandria will return to us when she needs a new high-end workstation and/or gaming computer.

Hardware Selection Reasons

Processor (CPU): Intel i9-9900K

I chose this processor for the superior performance in gaming.

While Ryzen 3000 did have a more attractive ratio between speed, threads, and price, Alexandria wanted something that was well-known and would do well across the board.

Alexandria understood that needing more CPU threads down the road would require a new motherboard as well.

CPU Cooler: be quiet! Dark Rock Pro 4

I chose this CPU cooler for the excellent cooling performance of air. While water does cool better, air is more reliable, and this cooler also runs extremely quietly.

This cooler also looks nice in the case, making for a very sleek interior. Alexandria agreed with the visual design, and understood my explanation of the reliability advantage.

Motherboard: MSI MPG Z390 GAMING PRO CARBON

I chose this motherboard for socket compatibility and robust design. MSI is also one of my preferred motherboard manufacturers.

Alexandria agreed with the visual design, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Memory: Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x16GB DDR4-2666

I chose this memory kit for motherboard compatibility and robust design. Corsair is also one of my preferred memory manufacturers.

Alexandria needed 32GB of memory for her workflow, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Storage (SSD): HP EX920 1TB NVME

I chose this SSD for robust design, high capacity, fast access times, and low cost. HP is also one of my preferred SSD manufacturers.

Alexandria understood my explanation of the build quality.

Storage (SSD): Intel 660p 2TB NVME

I chose this SSD for robust design, high capacity, fast access times, and low cost. Intel is also one of my preferred SSD manufacturers.

Alexandria didn’t need more space for archival storage, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Video Card (GPU): 2x EVGA RTX 2080 8GB XC HYBRID

I chose this GPU for long-term performance and robust design.

Alexandria needed to run several monitors, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Power Supply (PSU): EVGA SuperNOVA G3 1000

I chose this PSU for wattage, robust design, and long-term stability.

Alexandria wanted a gaming computer that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro M SE Tempered Glass

I chose this case for robust design, unique theme, airflow, and long-term stability.

Alexandria wanted a gaming computer that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.

Fans: 5x Phanteks PH-F120MP

I chose these fans for robust design, airflow, static pressure, low-noise operation, and long-term stability.

Alexandria wanted a gaming computer that would last, and understood my explanation of the build quality.
